"Fellow" of the National Academy of Arts & Sciences and a member of the American Academy of Achievement and a recipient of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Club of Boston, and in the past has served on several for profit and not-forprofit boards.

Other Backgrounds:

Served as Boston Scientific's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer from its founding until March of 1999. Under his vision and leadership, Boston Scientific grew from a start-up company with 38 employees to a $3 billion company in 1999, employing more than 13,500 people worldwide. Before co-founding Boston Scientific in 1979, Mr. Nicholas served as General Manager of the Medical Products Division at Millipore Corporation. From 1968 through 1978, he held various positions both in and outside the United States at Eli Lilly & Company, in sales, marketing and general management. Served as an officer in the U.S. Navy, resigning his commission as a lieutenant in 1968.
