ABOUT INFORMED CLINICAL CARE
Informed clinical care is the embodiment of healthcare delivery in which medical informatics instruments (MIIs) capture, exchange, analyze and present clinical information in a manner that enlightens and informs participants based on individual experience, observational evidence, computerized prediction and personal perspective.
Medical informatics instruments are used in Internet interventions to cognitively engage clinicians, patients and consumers at the site of care. By engaging the thinking, decisions, motivations, attitudes and behaviors of patients and clinicians MIIs are the genesis of "informed clinical care."
THE BUSINESS OF MEDICAL INFORMATICS INSTRUMENTS
The MII industry is a young market, as only recently has the fusion of technologic tools, informatics instruments, market needs and social changes reached the needed critical mass to generate a new medical field.
To function effectively MIIs must meet the following requirements:
Be capable of influencing the thinking, perspectives and behavior of clinicians and patients;
Function in a user-centered manner, so that interactions expand capabilities and minimize unintended consequences;
Incorporate and adapt to new data inputs and changes in setting;
Interact with patients in a manner that achieves accountable and informed engagement;

Better the quality of life of patients and their families, either directly or indirectly.
THE VISION OF INTELLIGENT INFORMATICS SYSTEMS
An intelligent informatics system (IIS) is a network of interconnected MIIs, clinicians, patients and consumers collaborating and functioning as a whole. Network and complexity sciences have demonstrated over the past decades how nature repeatedly employs these vastly interconnected collectives to generate increasingly sophisticated patterns and behavior in an emergent fashion. The popular media has coined the terms "wisdom of the crowds" and "tipping point" to describe the power and dynamics of these systems.
IISs entail networks of healthcare participants interacting with each other and with cognitively potent Internet instruments so as to activate patients, personalize predictions, circulate expertise, and generate new medical knowledge.
IC Sciences' pursuit of this vision involves, among other things, developing and integrating MIIs into clinical specialty practices to construct patient engagement informatics systems, and designing MII communities of endovascular practitioners that create collective physician intelligence systems.
